Website Design
This document outlines the requirements for the successful promotion of a website.
When evaluating your website there are certain things you must look for in order to make sure the process runs smoothly and you gain maximum potential for successful search engine listings.
There are a number of issues that often become obstacles for 310k Internet Solutions to overcome with a new client.
- Frames. Websites designed in frames are generally less successful than plain html sites. It helps if there is a page prior to the frameset, which contains a company and product overview including the most important keywords. The more times the keyword appears in that page the more relevant that search term will be when search engines index the page.
- Ecommerce websites. Websites that contain dynamically generated pages rarely achieve high rankings in search engines again It helps if there is a page prior to the storefront, which contains a company and product overview including the most important keywords. Text links have to be present on all pages in order for the search engine spiders to crawl all pages of the site and index each page in order of keyword density. This is very important for all types of website!
- Flash. Sites designed in Macromedia Flash are 310k Internet Solutions’s nightmare, due to all text being contained in the movie there is no content for the search engine spiders to index. Basically if you want good search engine listings don’t use flash or if you have to use it make sure you include text content within the pages.
- Page Names & Alt Tags. An important thing to consider when designing your website is the page names and alt tags for images. If you name a page using a keyword this page is more likely to be indexed higher under that phrase i.e. www.yourdomain.com/keyphrase. Also if alt tags on images contain keywords this adds to the keyword density for that page which will increase positions.
- Hidden text. There is no advantage to using invisible text. Some search engines view invisible text (i.e., white text on a white background) as spam, and will downgrade your site scoring if they detect it. Instead of hiding keywords, incorporate them into your site content and META tags.
- Content. Search engines think larger sites are more likely to contain useful information. You can boost your scoring by adding content pages. These pages can reinforce the content of your site, and can pull in added traffic. Remember the more times a keyword appears in a page the more relevant the page appears under that key phrase to a search engine.
- FTP Access. One of the most common problems when 310k Internet Solutions takes on a new client is gaining access to the website via FTP. Please make sure when sending these details that they are correct. Also if we require a specific dial up connection to access the space please include dialup phone numbers usernames and passwords. If you do not wish to supply FTP details please assign a suitable contact for project coordination.
- Keyword Selection. There are several things to consider when choosing keywords and phrases. The most important is to put yourself in the shoes of the type of visitor you want to attract. Make a list of what kind of keywords or phrases they are likely to search on. This requires you to separate yourself from your product, service or web site and think like the average person who might want to find you, but knows nothing about your site. It's a good idea to ask friends or co-workers what they might type in to find your site, or even have them go to a search engine and tell them to try and find information on the topic your site happens to cover. Watch what words and phrases they use. Once we have a list of 15 key phrases from you we conduct keyword research to help us find out if people are using those phrases to search, we will then send the key phrases back to you to confirm before they are put into the site.
